Our mission is to provide children with the best possible infant and toddler teacher-guides who respect the child and can support each child’s needs. Infant and toddler teacher-guides will explore the necessary materials and resources that foster the child’s growth and development. Guides will provide constructive, sensorial exploration opportunities that will encourage the child to develop a lifelong love and enthusiasm for discovery and learning.
Our vision calls upon us to prepare teacher-guides who affirm and promote the essential goodness, dignity, curiosity and freedom of all human beings. The goal of the Infant Toddler Teacher-Guide training program is to provide teacher-guide candidates with a thorough understanding of the first plane of development, to help them gain insights into the true nature of child development, the link to the home environment, partnership with parents, the use of developmentally appropriate Montessori materials and to respect the “absorbent mind”.

The Montessori Infant and Toddler Teacher-Guide Education Course is an intensive course that prepares the adult to accompany and guide children from birth through 3 years of age in a Montessori environment.
In the first three years of life, children are sensorial explorers that absorb everything from their environment. This ‘absorbent mind’ is the fundamental principle of the Infant and Toddler Teacher Guide Education Course. The Master Teacher is committed to guiding the teacher candidates understanding of the theoretical framework for understanding child development and the use of developmentally appropriate materials. The components of the course include:
Practical application in an approved Montessori learning environment either under the guidance of an experienced Montessori certified teacher or through an approved self-guided work placement is required during this course.
The Infant and Toddler Education course consists of 600 hours, including a minimum of 400 recorded hours of direct, supervised work with children in and infant and/or toddler environment. The teacher-guide candidate will observe, assist and actively participate in the dynamic process of learning at their host Montessori school.
Observation serves as the foundation for understanding in the Montessori philosophy. As such, teacher-guide candidates are required to spend 50 hours observing children in their home/cultural environments. Students will then be required to reflect upon these observations.
Demonstrations, lectures, discussions, practice, projects, material making and research constitute the remaining 200 hours.
Successful completion of coursework, examinations and Internship leads to the Infant and Toddler Montessori Teacher Diploma, awarded by the Institute.
